World Kidney Day

Kidneys:

• Filter the blood – remove toxins and excess substances, such as urea and creatinine, from the blood through the filtration process in the nephrons.
• Regulate fluid volume – control the body’s fluid balance by absorbing or excreting water according to the body’s needs.
• Regulate blood pressure – affects blood pressure by regulating blood volume and sodium levels, mainly through hormones such as renin and aldosterone.

Abnormal functioning of the kidneys leads to the development of kidney diseases, which include an extensive group of conditions, the most common of which include:

• chronic kidney disease (CKD), is often caused by diabetes and hypertension
• nephritis
• kidney stones

Today, we encourage everyone to raise awareness about kidney health and to take steps to keep them in good shape by performing basic tests and maintaining a healthy diet. 

On World Kidney Day, we would also like to pay tribute to the remarkable doctors of nephrology! These kidney health specialists are irreplaceable in the fight against kidney disease and in providing care to patients affected by these conditions. Their knowledge, experience, and dedication are invaluable to people with kidney disease, helping them both treat and prevent further complications.
